To mark Scottish Apprenticeships Week, RSE welcomed Claire Baker, MSP for Mid Scotland and Fife, to its Dalgety Bay site to showcase the strength of the company’s extensive apprenticeship programme and continued investment in workforce skills.

Since launching the programme in 1998, RSE has supported more than 400 apprentices. From school leavers to those looking for a career change, the programme has equipped them with the necessary skills and qualifications they need to have a successful career in the sector. Apprentices partake in a combination of on-the-job training and mentoring with formalised college learning.

Discussions during the visit focused on the positive experiences of those in the programme, as well as the important role policymakers can play in facilitating closer collaboration between education establishments and employers to strengthen skills pathways and future workforce needs.

Baker expressed her gratitude for the work of RSE in developing talent and the company’s role in expanding Scotland’s skilled workforce, helping to create meaningful careers in the water industry for generations to come.

In November 2025, RSE was recognised for this commitment as Large Employer of the Year at the Highlands and Islands Apprenticeship Awards and Mike Campbell, RSE’s Apprentice Training Officer, received the Apprentice Ambassador Award. This success reflects the quality of RSE’s apprentice program and the individual performance of those who have progressed into a wide range of roles throughout the business.

During the visit, Baker toured the site, including workshops to see chemical dosing units in production and learn more about RSE’s Timber Modular Builds (TMB) – modular enclosures built from sustainable timber in the UK to replace traditional materials such as steel.

RSE are excited to announce that we are welcoming applicants to our apprenticeship programme. Launch your career in the water industry and apply now: RSE Apprenticeship Programme – www.rsewater.com Closing date for applications is 27th of April.
