In the 2024/25 FY, RSE achieved a 17% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions per £M turnover, thanks to the implementation of various sustainability initiatives across the business. These initiatives include our investment in solar energy –accounting for 10% of our electricity usage – and the use of Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO) across our sites and in our fleet vehicles, significantly reducing our Scope 1 emissions.

We recognise the impact our operations have on the environment and the role our collective carbon emissions play in contributing towards climate change. While we are making substantial progress in reducing our Scope 1 and 2 emissions, a portion of our current emissions remains unavoidable and will continue to pollute the atmosphere until we reach Net Zero.

To address this, RSE is proud to partner with Carbon Neutral Britain to offset our remaining operational emissions (Scope 1 and 2), helping to prevent further irreversible damage to our climate.

All projects are verified against the following standards:

  • Verra – Verified Carbon Standard
  • Gold Standard – Voluntary Emissions Reductions
  • UN – Certified Emission Reduction Programme
RSE is proud to be Operationally Carbon Neutral for the 2024/25 Financial Year

Through Carbon Neutral Britain, RSE is supporting the Woodland Fund which facilitates 10% of its projects in the UK. As part of this initiative, RSE has benefitted a variety of environmental-based projects that target specific UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Read more about the projects we have supported below:

Project 1 – Blue Carbon Mangrove Restoration
Blue Carbon Mangrove Restoration is the first verified blue carbon project in the world, representing a holistic approach to environmental stewardship. Spanning over 350,000 hectares in the Indus River Delta Region of Sindh, southeastern Pakistan, this project is expected to remove approximately 142 million tonnes of CO2e from the atmosphere, marking a significant contribution to global climate mitigation efforts.

Project 2 – Martson Vale Forest Creation
This project represents an inspiring tree planting venture to rejuvenate and transform the Marston Vale area, spanning 61 square miles between Bedford and Milton Keynes. The project is focused on leveraging the power of trees and woodlands to enhance the quality of life for both people and wildlife within the region, whilst also providing carbon sequestration for many years to come.

Project 3 – Orinoco River Basin Conservation
The Orinoco River Basin Conservation and Reforestation project is one of the first of its kind within the region, planting over 20,000 hectares of trees, with an audited 214,925 tCO2e expected to be sequestered each year. Focusing on degraded grassland across the Orinoco River basin, reforestation within the area is expected to assist with conservation and protection of 56 ‘observed’ or ‘monitored threatened’ species, including the Jaguar, Puma & Tapir.

By supporting these projects, we are not only removing harmful CO2 emissions from the atmosphere but also championing the broader SDGs. The projects provide employment opportunities, promote education and skills development, and stimulate local economies in both developing and developed countries.

RSE understand that carbon offsetting is not the only solution to solving the climate crisis. Pair this with emission reduction activities, and we are minimising our climate impact in every way possible.

Stephen Webb, RSE Sustainability Manager, comments:

“RSE have made significant progress this year in reducing our absolute emissions. With this in mind, we are proud to continue our support of Carbon Neutral Britian to offset our Scope 1 and 2 emissions for the 2024/25 FY across RSE Group. This continued climate action provides a multitude of ESG benefits including local employment, biodiversity gain, and  economic growth.”
