RSE Showcases Innovation to The King During Dingwall Visit

RSE was honoured to showcase its award-winning water treatment innovations to His Majesty The King during his visit to Dingwall, celebrating the town’s rich history, thriving business community and local heritage.

The King’s visit formed part of the Dingwall 800 celebrations, marking 800 years since the town was granted Royal Burgh status. Arriving at Cromarty Car Park, the King was welcomed by Lord-Lieutenant of Ross and Cromarty, Joanie Whiteford, before meeting with local organisations, volunteers and community groups contributing to the landmark celebrations.

As one of the Highlands’ leading engineering and manufacturing businesses, RSE was invited to take part in the event following its receipt of the prestigious King’s Award for Enterprise in Innovation in 2025. The award recognises outstanding achievements in innovation and reflects more than four decades of technical expertise that have established RSE as a leader in water treatment solutions across the UK.

The honour acknowledges the company’s pioneering work in developing modular water treatment systems that provide faster, more flexible and lower-carbon solutions for the construction and upgrade of water and wastewater treatment facilities nationwide.

During the visit, the King met with Allan Dallas and the RSE team, who presented the company’s innovative modular treatment portfolio. This included the m-MBBR®, designed to deliver efficient wastewater treatment solutions; the m-CTU®, providing advanced clean water treatment capabilities; and the Biomatrix floating ecosystem module, a nature-based solution that enhances water quality while supporting biodiversity.

The King showed particular interest in RSE’s delivery of ceramic membrane technology, an innovative approach to water treatment that extends membrane lifespan while reducing water abstraction. The ceramic membrane material is fully recyclable and can be repurposed for a variety of applications once it has completed its role within the water treatment process, further supporting sustainability objectives.

The visit also provided an opportunity to highlight the talented people driving innovation across the business. The King was introduced to Katie Munro, an RSE Electrical Apprentice who qualified as an electrician in November 2025 after achieving an exceptional 98.33% in her Final Integrated Competence Assessment (FICA).

Katie has played a key role in the fabrication and installation of the world’s largest application of ceramic membrane technology within a water treatment plant. Her achievements have also been recognised nationally, with Katie recently named as a finalist in the SJIB Apprentice of the Year Awards 2026, becoming the first female apprentice to be shortlisted among the competition’s top three finalists.

The event provided a valuable opportunity for RSE to showcase the innovation, engineering excellence and skilled workforce that continue to support the delivery of sustainable water treatment solutions across the Highlands and the wider UK.
