Setting the Standard in Modular Wastewater Treatment

The m-MBBR®️® system delivers a modular, adaptable, and low-carbon approach to wastewater treatment. The solution has been engineered for rapid deployment, repeatability, and high-performance treatment, ensuring it can support clients across a diverse range of sectors.

m-MBBR®

The m-MBBR® is a modular, high-efficiency wastewater treatment system

Using biofilm carriers and integrated aeration, it removes BOD, ammonia, and suspended solids with exceptional consistency.

The m-MBBR® consists of compact, plug-and-play modules which are off-site fabricated and factory tested, enabling rapid deployment at scale.

With its high biomass concentrations and longer sludge retention times, it effectively handles load variations, toxicity, and achieves high-quality water treatment.

How m-MBBR® Technology Works

  • Submerged Biofilm Carriers: Provide a large surface area for microbial growth.
  • Continuous Mixing: Aeration ensures uniform mixing and optimised oxygen transfer, provided by duty/standby blowers.
  • Fully Automated: Integrated control room with control system suitable for remote operation.
  • Versatile: Suitable for preliminary, secondary, tertiary, and side-stream applications, market-leading flow range through the standard products.

m-MBBR® Processes

BOD Reduction

The standard m-MBBR® module is configured as a 3-stage biological reactor with an integrated 2-phase solids separation stage. Dividing the biological reactor into 3 separate but interconnected stages is proven to improve BOD removal efficiencies.

BOD & TN Reduction

The first stage reactor of the m-MBBR® is configured as an anoxic zone, where denitrification of the nitrified liquors from the third stage reactor takes place.

The second-stage reactor is dedicated to BOD removal, with additional BOD and ammonia reduction achieved in the third-stage reactor before the 2-Phase solids removal stage.

This configuration of m-MBBR® will also provide beneficial levels of alkalinity within the treated water discharge.

BOD & NH4 Reduction

The standard m-MBBR® module is configured as a 3-stage biological reactor. The first and second stages are used for BOD reduction. The third and final stage is used for nitrification of the treated wastewater before the 2-Phase solids removal stage.

Tertiary Nitrification

For existing works that are failing to meet ammonia discharge consents, the m-MBBR® can be configured to provide a very cost-effective nitrification stage that can be operated as a stand-alone facility or integrated within the existing works as a side-stream reactor.

m-MBBR® Models

evo m-MBBR®

Fully automated biological treatment with integral solids separation.

There are 3 stages of biological m-MBBR® treatment, depending on the configuration for:

1. BOD Reduction
2. BOD and Nitrification
3. BOD and Total Nitrogen Reduction (Nitrification and Denitrification)

Following biological treatment, a 2-phase separation stage is used to produce solids and a high-quality effluent with a low total suspended solids concentration.

bio m-MBBR®

Fully automated biological treatment with integrated blowers and controls.

Where solids separation is not required, but BOD removal with nitrification or combined BOD and total nitrogen reduction is needed, the bio unit is a suitable option.

It incorporates the 3 stages of MBBR biological treatment, similar to the evo m-MBBR®.  The bio unit offers higher treatment capacity due to the absence of a solids separation stage.

airo m-MBBR®

The airo m-MBBR® is a single-stage biological MBBR process. Suitable for higher flow and load applications than the evo and bio m-MBBR® models, and operates without solids separation.

The airo m-MBBR® can be applied for either BOD or ammonia (nitrification) reduction, and reactors can be combined in a series to provide full treatment, with solids separation in an independent process.

The airo m-MBBR® model is particularly suitable for higher flow applications to significantly reduce load or for tertiary nitrification.
