More than 30 new apprentices have joined RSE’s award-winning apprenticeship programme, as we continue to invest in the next generation of engineering talent.
Our teams recently welcomed its latest cohort of first-year electrical instrumentation and mechanical apprentices to our Muir of Ord production facilities for an induction day last week, designed to introduce them to the business, their future colleagues, and the exciting career opportunities ahead.
This year, more than 20 RSE Treatment Solutions modern apprentices have joined the RSE Apprenticeship Programme and will combine hands-on industry experience with college-based learning at UHI Inverness, one of the partners of the University of the Highlands and Islands. The induction day provided apprentices with an opportunity to meet key members of the RSE team who will support their development throughout the programme. Mike Campbell, Apprenticeship Programme Manager, and John Patterson, Production Manager, shared insights into the expectations of the apprenticeship programme, outlining the skills, commitment and teamwork required both in the workshop and during their studies at college.
RSE was also delighted to welcome representatives from UHI Inverness, including Ally MacKay, Depute Curriculum Lead for Engineering Craft, and Brian McIntosh, Fabrication and Welding lecturer, alongside colleagues Erin Ferguson and Pippa LeFevre from the Business Solutions team. The visit gave the new apprentices an early introduction to their academic journey and offered valuable guidance on what to expect during their time at UHI Inverness.
As part of the event, long-standing partner Wesco Anixter met with the new recruits after agreeing to subsidise apprentice toolkits for the second consecutive year. Senior Manager Zubi Hussain and Business Development Manager Jodie Anderson attended the induction and presented the toolkits and goody bags to each apprentice, demonstrating the company’s continued commitment to supporting skills development within the engineering sector.
The day also provided an opportunity for RSE and UHI Inverness representatives to discuss future collaboration and strengthen the partnership between the two organisations. During a tour of RSE’s production facilities, constructive conversations were held around course development and ensuring the training provided continues to meet the evolving needs of industry.
Alongside welcoming its newest apprentices, RSE will also support an additional five Graduate Apprentices through UHI Inverness this year, further reinforcing our commitment to developing future engineering talent across the Highlands and beyond.
Mike Campbell, Apprenticeship Programme Manager at RSE, said:
“It was fantastic to welcome our newest apprentices to Muir of Ord and see such enthusiasm as they begin their careers with RSE. Our apprenticeship programme plays a vital role in developing the skilled engineers and tradespeople of the future, and we’re proud to provide opportunities that combine practical experience with high-quality academic learning. We’d like to thank our partners at UHI Inverness and Wesco Anixter for their continued support and collaboration.”
Zubi Hussain, Senior Manager Business Development at Wesco Anixter, added:
“We’re delighted to be supporting RSE’s apprentice programme for the second consecutive year, providing toolkits to help apprentices as they start their engineering careers. Meeting the latest cohort is always inspiring, and it reinforces the importance of investing in future talent. We’re proud to continue supporting RSE in developing the next generation of engineers.”
Dr Georgia Parker, Vice Principal of UHI Inverness, said:
“We value our long-standing relationship with RSE, and we are looking forward to welcoming such a large cohort of their new apprentices to our campuses to begin a programme of training that will provide a foundation for successful and rewarding careers. These apprentices will benefit from a supportive partnership between RSE and UHI Inverness which provides a combination of high-quality learning and real-world industry experience and supports the growth of our region’s workforce and economy. We are proud to play a role in helping these apprentices achieve their potential and contribute to the future success of the industry.”
Through its apprenticeship and graduate apprenticeship programmes, RSE continues to invest in our people, creating rewarding career opportunities while developing the skilled workforce needed to deliver innovative engineering solutions for the water industry across the UK.
